Day One, Sept. 9

It's the one-year countdown. (Great, now I've got "The Final Countdown" stuck in my head. Thanks aid station DJ.)

So. Not sure what this is going to be, but I want to document this is some way, if only for myself.

Woke up at 4:30 at my cheap motel room in Madison -- not anxious, necessarily, but ready to get downtown, get in line and commit to Ironman Wisconsin 2013. I suppose I'd "committed" to it mentally long before this, but today was when I'd have to put my money down. Today it became real.

Yesterday, I volunteered, seeing both unbelievable pros and lots of "normal" people putting together one stroke after another, one step after another, to get it done. Before 8 a.m., we were let into the registration room where we handed over our names -- and our credit cards -- and I was in.

Now comes the hard part. Not Ironman -- though that'll be hard of course -- but the training.

My registration guy wasn't exactly fast on the keyboard, but he got the job done. And now I'll be looking to get the job done. Even if I'm not fast at anything.
